Alberta vote on secession process draws national attention
Less than one-quarter of Alberta’s population wants the province to separate from Canada, according to polling.
On Oct. 19, Alberta voters will decide whether to begin the legal process toward a future binding secession referendum. Support for separation is a minority, while more than 400,000 people signed an opposing petition; a court blocked the pro-separation petition over Indigenous consultation concerns.
