Bemotrizinol sunscreens reach U.S. stores after FDA approval
The FDA reviewed BEMT safety studies involving more than 500 patients.
The FDA approved bemotrizinol, also known as BEMT, in June, and the first U.S. sunscreens containing the chemical have begun reaching store shelves. The ingredient offers broad-spectrum protection and is intended to have less skin absorption and less visible residue than some alternatives.
