Swiss glaciers lose 19.4% of ice since 2021
Swiss glaciers lost 5.5% of their ice volume in 2026, the second-biggest percentage drop on record, bringing total loss since 2021 to nearly one-fifth. Scientists attributed the loss to warming, low winter snowfall and record summer heat. Average thickness fell by 2.5–4 metres, and meltwater loss reached 2.2 trillion litres.
